“I’ve always been attracted to things hidden or half-revealed; in this sunlit series the face of the woman is almost always hidden. The first seven paintings were intensely detailed and life sized, to increase the illusion of reality. Each took nearly three months to complete, and I knew they were finished when they became like a window to another world The first series of striped skirts were painted in the 1970s and 80s, but, recently I returned to this subject matter and am enjoying exploring ways to extend and expand on these themes.”
